Mark Chaput

VP of Facility Operations and Construction

Mark Chaput is the newest team member to the American Center for Mobility after 31 years of service with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).  Mark started his MDOT career in a construction position in the greater Detroit area. Through his tenure with the nation’s fourth largest country road system, Mark held numerous senior level positions including University Region Engineer overseeing 10 counties in mid-Michigan, and more recently the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Field Service Function where he ran the day-to-day operations of Field Services including Construction and Pavements, Maintenance and Operations, the Research Program, and the MDOT ITS Program.

Mark was also an early champion and leader within MDOT’s ITS and Connected Vehicle program, noted as one of the most innovative among State DOTs.

Prior to joining the core team, Mark was on an 18-month special assignment where he took a lead role on the award-winning construction of ACM’s connected and automated vehicle (CAV) test facility. In early August 2018, Mark became the ACM Vice President of Facility Operations and Construction.  Mark’s responsibilities include overseeing the facility operations, as well as the design and construction of the remaining test environments, infrastructure and facilities.

Mark holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering (Construction) from Lawrence Institute of Technology.
